From Phi Phi we got the ferry to Ko Lanta, as soon as we got there we knew we were going to love it, it was so chilled out and much nicer than the last place.
We were staying in a really nice bungalow set back a little bit from the beach. On our 2nd day we rented a moped and headed to the national park at the bottom of the island, it was a white pristine beach with a lighthouse overlooking it. After bronzing for a bit we headed back, the drive out of the park was up a fairly steep hill and as we were going up it I spotted some monkeys on the side of the road. I had the camera out so I was going to take a picture and for some reason Casson decided to stop ... on the hill ....at an angle (so across the road rather than facing up the hill), there was no way he was ever going to be able to hold the bike with me on it at that angle so it started to tip and I almost face planted the floor! I had my own bike the following day.
One evening we went out for something to eat in a really local restaurant, it was so basic but we'd been one lunchtime and the food was good. Once we'd sat down and ordered we realised the place was full of 100's of flying insects with massive wings. It was like they were having a fit, they were dive bombing the floor, us, pretty much everything. Once on the floor the cats were pouncing on them. I was on high alert and was screeching and swatting them out of the way, pretty much making a show of myself and then after about 10 minutes they were gone and the floor was covered in 100's of wings. It's one of the oddest things we've seen.
We couldn't believe the age of some of the kids riding mopeds, we saw a boy who was about 8 riding with 2 other children as passengers one of which was a toddler! On one day we both had bikes and were pottering along taking in the scenery and we were completely mugged off and overtaken by a 10 year old boy!
We just chilled out here and spent lazy days by the pool or on the beach but we really liked it.
General points
1) I did get back on Casson's bike in the end, he's actually a really safe driver apart from when we're taking pictures of monkeys or he's swerving to avoid a dead completely squashed snake in the road (in case it wasn't actually dead and got on the bike!)
2) I've finally done it! I've got Casson to read a book and he's even admitted he's enjoying it
