Hiya everyone,
I can't believe it's nearly the end of December. It still doesn't feel at all christmassy here - I think it's because I'm not racing around buying christmas presents as well as the weather. We're off to Sydney today which is really exciting. We're spending the week before christmas in the Blue Mountains but then we're back to Sydney for Christmas and New Year.
The glacier walk at Franz Josef was wonderful. The weather was fantastic and it was great getting the crampons on and walking up the ice. A large proportion of my group got scrapes and grazes but I managed to return blood free. Unfortunately the other Amy took a bit of a tumble and had a couple of quite spectacular bruises. Our guide was a bit of a rookie and got us lost a few times but we all got there in the end!
We stayed at Wanaka for a night after Franz Josef and then headed to Queenstown for 10 days which was great. It was lovely to stay in the same place for such a long time. That said we didn't get up to a huge amount! We did some walks up the hills which were good (although very steep) and other Amy went to Milford Sands for the day. That aside we just spent the time relaxing and going out in the evenings. The weather was a bit mixed but we had a few beautiful days. Shopping for more clothes which I am yet again struggling to fit in my rucksac was a good distraction for when it did rain. There were some great sweet and ice cream shops as well which always helps!
We've travelled to Christchurch to get the plane but unfortunately we spent too much time in Queenstown to stay here properly. I'll get a good look from the plane window as we leave! I hope everyone has a lovely christmas if I don't message before then and a great New Year :)
