chiang mai, Thailand
So finally travelling! The journey to Bangkok was fantastic and I would definitely recommend flying with Qantus to anyone. In fact both of us ended up sleeping for 9 hours (with the help of Nytol) and wished we'd had more time to watch all the latest films they had on board.
Bangkok was just as hectic as I imagined and really good fun. Luckily I seemed to escape suffering from jet lag, so we headed straight out on the town and ended up at a ping pong show - one of those 'must do' things I guess, though was very seedy and sad.
After 2 nights in the Vieng Tai hotel, it was time to downgrade and we managed to find a hotel for 1.50 a night and that was with air-con! On our last day we checked out the Grand Palace which was absolutely stunning and had an unplanned night of getting absolutely trashed (spent about an hour wandering around Bangkok looking for Si's 'lost' passport, only for him to later find it underneath his pillow!)
Yesterday we decided it was time for us, and especially our livers, to move on from Bangkok and head up to Chiang Mai.
To get there we took the night train, which although was 14 hours long, was actually really good fun, as we had a private room with bunk beds and saw some stunning scenery.
Chiang Mai is really beautiful and I think we are going to stay here for about a week before heading over to Laos.
Tomorrow we are heading on a three day jungle trek which has been organised via our hotel. Really excited about the trek as we get to ride elephants, go bamboo rafting and stay with a hill tribe.
