Hi!
Okay, so I know that this picture is of the Colosseum but the stupid blog site doesn't offer a picture for Verona (where we are atm) so this will have to do.
We left Florence in a bit of a rush after handing back our keys to the landlord, Vincent who was cycled in late as but totally unaware. We got on the train in time though and arrived in Verona without any majors :)
It is such a cute little town! I have always had an affinity with (the idea of) Verona, after that stupid Elemeno P song that I loved during school. Lol. Lame, I know. But Elemeno P are cool, so don't diss :D Anyway, I knew nothing about Verona (aside from the generic Romeo + Juliet potentially may or may not have existed here story) but it has served as a nice little stop over on our way to Venice (tomorrow).
The town is tiny, pop. something like 260,000 I think? *Trying to recall random facts from the hop-on-hop-off bus* and has one street of shopping (don't get me wrong, it's a tiny town but still has big name stores i.e. Gucci, D&G and any other semi-designer stores that are so far out of my price range!), an arena that I feel like it may have been built before the Colosseum?, sweet little plazas and DELICIOUS GELATI. zomg. I have taken it upon myself to make the most of being in gelati country as we now only have 4 more days here (tomorrow, which doesn't count as we will be getting on the boat, and a few days after the cruise). So, I am having at least 2 gelatis a day. Enough said.
Ummmmm what else? Oh, yes. R+J's house. Holy hell, what a complete rip off! (Gwenda, if you are reading this: DO NOT bother!) I had read in my super-heavy-hard-to-fit-in-my-bag Lonely Planet that you can go to R+J's "courtyard" for free, and then pay to go to the "museum". So we went to "Juliet's House" (yeah right) and pushed through the hoards of tourists leaving love notes on the walls and rubbing Juliets boob for luck, and paid for the museum. Museum my ass. This basically consisted of someones real nice house, sone chairs, a bed, tiny balcony and some pictures with Italian captions. I may be skeptys about it, but it seems like a bit of a scam???
That's about all I think. :) Tomorrow we train to Venice, board the cruise ship and spend the next week cruising down the Adriatic and docking in to Greece, Turkey and Croatia. Not sure about net access so will blog when I am back!
