There is no better place to celebrate the Easter holiday than Dublin, the capital of Ireland. Famous for the friendly locals, Guinness, having over 1000 pubs, and producing the legendary U2. My parents, Brucie Bogtrotter and Glendog joined me on this trip, which you could tell as we got to the airport about 50 hours early, instead of me rushing around until the last minute like usual.
We hired a car and set on our way exploring the sites, found our hotel and put our tourist shoes on to do a 'hop on hop off' bus tour. Scored some cheap tickets after some great chat with the man selling the tickets, myself as a student, and Mum & Dad over 65 year olds. They saw all the sites of the capital city, me - not so much as I fell asleep a quarter of the way round.
As all the pubs & restaurants were closed due to it being Easter Friday, I discovered the world famous fish and chips shop to have for tea. Was a tiny place called Leo Burdocks, if you are ever in Dublin I would recommend this, with the likes of Venus & Serena Williams, Mick Jagger & Sandra Bullock have eaten there.
Took a trip to the famous Guinness Storehouse - the home of one of the most successful brands of beer in existence. Arthur Guinness signed a lease in 1759 for 9000 years and pays 45 euro a year, winning! We learned how to pour a perfect pint of Guinness and got a certificate to prove our newfound talents.
After sampling some Guinness we carried on to the the famous Temple Bar, downing a few pints and listening to an Irish band - they even played Galway Girl. Went to The Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Dublin for dinner had a delicious Irish stew. After some mighty persuading on my part to get Bruce to drink with me he ended up having 6 pints of Guinness and Kilkenny throughout the night. Let's just say on Sunday someone in the family was hungover AND spewing.. and for once it was not me, yep that's right ol' Bruce could not handle the irish jandle!
The next day we drove to the Cliffs of Moher on the southwestern edge of the Burren region, it was cold, windy and freezing - but did not diminish the breath-taking beauty of the place. Then onto the pretty wee seaside town of Galway. We decided to be highrollers and went out for a fancy 3 course meal for our last night in Ireland.
Was a nice trip, good to finally get to Ireland after my one night in Cork on the raz for St Patricks day didn't really count. Gave Bruce & Glenys a good taste of travelling around Europe, as they were heading onwards to try and catch the sun in Portugal.
