This morning we had an early start. We met in the lobby of the guesthouse and piled into a 2 vans for our 4 hr drive to the boarder between Thailand and Laos. We drove for about 2 hrs to Chiang Rai, where we stopped for lunch and checked out the white temple. The white temple is so far one of the most unique temples I've seen so far and from what we were told it is not a religious temple, its a fantasy temple created by a artist. With the fantasy mural inside the temple and the life like stature of a monk, this temple was a little on the crazy side.
Myself, Susan and Esra found a place to eat which was so cheap it only cost us $1.00. Soon we were back on the van on our way to Chang Khong, which is located on the Thai side of the border. We arrived at Chang Khong 2 hrs later and went through the Thai immigration, boarded a boat to cross the Mekong into Lao P.D.R. Arriving at the Lao Immigration no body knew what was going on. Eventually we all got through and headed to our next guesthouse, Arimid Guest House, which is located in the small village, called, Huay Xai This was my first night on my own in the rotation. The guesthouse was pretty basic and was in the style of bungalows. When we arrived we left our bags where we dropped them off the tuk tuk and started on our first of many Beer Lao's.
Later that night we went for dinner down on the Mekong, where we experience our first Lao meal and continued on with many more Beer Lao. After dinner Susan and I returned to the guesthouse and retired for the night. Whilst trying to get to sleep I heard a lot of people outside right next to my room talking and I could hear everything, but just couldn't understand what they were saying. Eventually I finally fell asleep.
