We attended a Maori cultural evening. We gathered in a hall where the traditions were explained before being led to the river. A smallscale war boat was padelled to the bank. The chief and some warriors arrived, armed and dangerous. We were then led to a concert hall. There was a challenge to establish that we came in peace including this tribe's Haka. After the preliminaries there was a performence of song, dance and some explanation of traditions.
