I haven't quite travelled as intensely as we did these last two weeks, and I learnt a few things along the way:
1. You can't pick your toilet. My best experience was squatting over a dirty toilet seat on a moving train.
2. Walking is inevitable, and stairs are unavoidable.
3a. If the Italian says he can't speak English, he's probably lying.
3b. Italians hate people who can't speak Italian, therefor compensating by pretending not to speak English.
4. Bus tickets are never bought on the bus. We learnt that one while in a bus trying to buy tickets.
5. In Greece and Italy, there are no such things as automatic sinks, though you can look stupid pretending it is. If you don't see the tap, there is a foot pedal on the floor.
6. Greece is much cheaper then Italy, and much cleaner.
7. Pre-purchase tickets always, lines are brutal.
8. You just have to take your chances when crossing the street in europe. Walk out and try to dodge the speeding cars.
9. Taxi drivers will drive too fast. Just close your eyes.
10. If your a girl bargaining with a male vendor, you can always get the discount.
11. You will be pestered by people trying to sell you things, but you have to give them your best smile. This is their livelihood and they can't help it.
12. Going to bed early is a beautiful thing.
13. There will be rude people. Everywhere.
14. Books are priceless when your electronics die because you only have one power adaptor.
15. Think about where you are going to fit what you want to buy before buying it. Trust me.
