We arrived into Stone Town (the capital of Zanzibar) in the early evening and found a guesthouse to stay in… that night we wandered around the city where we found this fantastic place where there were dozens of stalls selling seafood skewers, chips, freshly squeezed bamboo juice, samosas… all sorts! The atmosphere was really lovely and we saw a Tanzanian couple there who had obviously just got married as she was still in her wedding dress!
The next morning we went on a small diving boat to a sand bank just out from Stone Town and did some snorkelling… the coral looked quite dead to me and the fish weren’t amazing but it was so nice to be on a boat and the sea and sand were gorgeous!
On the third day in Zanzibar we caught a minibus up to a beach at the North of the Island called Kendwa (just below the party beach of Nungwi) the atmosphere here was great as it was very chilled… there was a camp fire on the beach most nights and some drumming but it all died down around 10 or 11 pm so you could get some sleep! It was absolutely fantastic… turquoise see through water and white sands! We stayed in a wooden hut on the beach and just in front of it every evening about a hundred local boys would come and play football and all run around shouting and whistling for a few hours! There were a few little restaurants which you could walk to along the beach… We stayed for 3 nights just lounging around in hammocks reading books and swimming in the beautiful water… it was paradise!
