Day 8 - Wake up to the sound of rain would you believe. Early for breakfast as we have the 2 day trek with overnight stay in a the remote village of Ta Ong. With much trepidation we got on the songthaw with our guide from the lodge and Simon, another guest at the lodge. Day 7 - An early wake up due to the local wildlife's morning mating calls!! Excellent breakfast at the lodge and then it was the ride back down the 'road of doom' to get to the main road to head off to the famous Wat Phou ruins. Luckily this time we were in a minivan which we had hired for the day. We arrived at the 'ferry port' to cross the Mekong, but please do not think this resembled Dover! Day 6 - and what a day it was! Breakfast at the Pakse Hotel to load up on bread and the discovery of the egg station was a bonus. A few haggles later we caught a cheap tuk tuk ride to the Southern Bus Station for half the price we paid last time to catch a bus to Kiet Ngong where the Kingfisher Ecolodge was based. Day 5 - Breakfast at the Tadlo Lodge overlooking the elephants having a morning wash in the river. After checking out we asked if we could hitch a lift to the main road to catch the bus which we eventually found out ran every hour. Unfortunately a lift was not forthcoming as the women wished us good luck in her best english, not a good sign!
