From Dunedin we went north up the coast first stopping in Timaro and then in Omero (probably spelt wrong). Timaro was a nice little town which we enjoying hanging out in for a day. We again tried to see some penguins at the local nesting site but it doesn't look like it's ever going to happen for us! Omero was on the other hand a pretty boring place. We did see an amusing incident of road rage when four teenage guys were swearing at a car in front of them. The guy in the front car then got out, turned out he was huge, and walked towards the teenagers. They promptly wound up their windows and tried to reverse and get away. I think their street cred got a bit of a bashing.
We then went to Methven with the intention of going skiing on Mt Hutt for a few days. The weather was fantastic for once with not a cloud in the sky and we'd managed to find the only room left in the entire town. It was looking pretty sweet but unfortunately the mountain was closed for the first two days. Turns out there were gale force winds at the top. We were a bit disappointed and so went to Christchurch for a day in order to find some entertainment. There was some sort of fair/festival going on so it turned out quite well. Apart from the highlight of seeing a guy walk on broken glass we also got free liquorice, yay!
Fortunately on our last day in Methven the mountain was open and so we managed to get at least one day skiing. The weather was fantastic, the snow conditions perfect and neither of us broke anything. Things cam up Milhouse afterall!
