hi everyone, we are all alive and well, we've just had no way of communicating with anyone!
We haven't stopped since we got here! We have been trekking through 'rural' china, staying in a guesthouse in Kaili, where we were entertained with a Culture show... we also had to perform a piece (totally unprepared) not once but twice..good times! You'd be surprised how well head shoulders knees and toes AND the YMCA goes down in China! Thankfully for the males in the group they did not have to perform! My feet have held up well for the trek unfortunately the same can not be said for my stomach and the food....but thankfully i am over the sickness! Unlucky for louise, who has experienced both bad feet and bad stomach! We are still having the time of our lives though and have laughed through everything!
Our homestay was mainly an introduction to rice wine i.e rocket fuel apparantely 'no thankyou' does not mean anything but another mouthful of rice wine! At night we were all taken to our 'shacks' which have no running water, toilets or heating...but have mobile phones and computers! The people are so friendly...they don't speak a word of english but still chat away and made us feel so welcome.
We stayed in a really nice hotel in Kunming and just chilled for the day and strolled around the markets. We went out for a few drinks at night and the city looked even better.
For anyone thinking about coming to China it's good to know how much of a freak show you are over here! They point, stare, take photos and stand as close a possible for a good look! they also spit, push and don't queue...but it's all part of the experience
We crossed the border into Vietnam last night and we are now in Sapa, which is a village in the mountains - the views from our hotel are amazing. We've only been here a night and I already LOVE Vietnam and can't wait to see more!
