[Disclaimer: the keyboard is weird hence lack of apostrophes. I do know the difference between its and it's]
Ive spent the last few days fighting jet-lag and exploring Berlin under snow. Apparently its quite a treat to get so much snow that it stazs on the ground so we're enjoying it while it lasts. Mind you, for someone not used to snow it does become a bit of a mission getting around, with your life flashing before your eyes every time your feet threaten to fly out from underneath you on some ice!
Yesterday Anna and I met up with Felix (Anna's boyfriend) and Milla, another friend of Felix and Anna's and went tobogganing. It was so much fun but we all ended up with quite severe bruises. We went to a big hill outside of town which is made from all the rubble left over from war (its covered in soil and trees so is now more like a hill than a pile of trash). We only had two sleds between the four of us so most of the time we doubled on the sleds. The problem here is that the heavier you are the faster you go and the harder you fall!! There also wasn't a great snow coverage so we kept hitting rocks and flying off the sled. But Felix came prepared with a flask full of Grog (hot tea with Rum) which served a number of purposes - (1) warmed us up after surfing snow on your butt (2) gave us Dutch courage to take off down the hill and (3) covered up any immediate pain we might have felt.
Afterwards Felix cooked us a traditional German meal of Knurdel and sausage. Very German.
And today the sun was out! It was a beautiful day with blue sky and snow covered city - but still freezing cold. Felix gave us a tour of the German History Museum (he studies history at uni) where we covered 1000 years in 3 hours. Might be stating the obvious here but Germany has certainly had a very colourful history to say the least. We also had a look at the Eastern Gallery where the Berlin Wall has been covered in artwork.
So that is my not so brief overview of my adverntures so far. We head off to Russia on Thursday where things might get a little more left of centre.
