Angkor
In the morning we hired a tuk tuk to take us to the ancient city of Angkor to explore the temples and ruins. We had seen many images of the temples, as Angkor is the national pride and identity of the country. They have Angkor in their flag, on their money and the national beer is named after it.
The tuk tuk took us to the largest temple first Angkor Wat then proceeded to take us on the route around the city, which was massive. So many temples, so little time, but Bayan temple was our favorite. It had amazing carved Buddha images in every single rock.
The temple grounds were full of children trying to sell everything, "Lady, wanna bracelet? cold drink? pineapple? painting? which one you want? 10 postcards, 1 dollar". I finally cracked for this one little kid who was selling water and other stuff that asked me about a hundred times before I entered the temple gate, "If you buy, you buy from me okay?" he says to me. I tell him, "Yes, if I buy bracelet it will be from you", "Okay, my name is Pich, what's yours? Where are you from", "My name is Ari, I am from Yugoslavia". The kid proceeds to ask, "Oh I don't know where that is Miss, is it in America?''. ''No its in Eastern Europe'', (the kid looks confused)!!!!
''Ok I'm from England'', ''Oh very good Miss you from Birmingham, Manchester or London?'' Here, I give you free bracelet but if you want one when your done, you buy from me, okay?"
Finally we reached the last temple which was on top of a hill, so we climbed the steepest stairs ever and settled down to watch the sunset over the temples whilst being joined by two friendly young monks.
Back to Siem Reip and after the long day we had we decided to treat ourselves to a fish spa, which was quite funny how the little fish fight to nibble on your feet and toes.
