Leaving Pozières, we decided to head to Amiens with Brad and Mikki to check out the city. Not realising how big it actually is we drove into the centre and quickly learned that Chardy is not a city slicker! Narrow streets and big intersections with little room for error. After a close shave we decided it best to part ways with Brad and Mikki and get back to the open road with our compass set on Antibes.
We shared the driving through the night, pulling into a truckstop around 4:30am for a couple of hours kip.
The following day we drove the rest of the way to Antibes where we were to meet up with Sophie and Andy. The trip costing €160 in tolls alone. Taking up the best part of the day, Chardy is definately an endurance athlete. Prefering to cruse rather than sprint.
We arrived into Antibes a little earlier than Sophie (so we thought) who had the keys to the appartment we would be staying in for the week. We found the address and thought it best to sit in the bar directly opposite so not to miss Sophie when she arrived. After several hours and several beers we noticed a light on in the appartment. Jimmy went to investigate and realised Sophie had been there the whole time!
We parked the van in a free car park opposite the docks, as the alternative would cost €26 per day minimum. We explored the old town and wandered about along the forshore enjoying the sunny weather. Andy arrived later that night and joined us for drinks and a relatively early night.
The following morning we went to check on the van only to find the side window smashed in. With nothing of value easily accessable the amature crims left empty handed. Leaving us with a big problem of getting a new window and finding a secure park for the rest of the week. We had to cop the €26 per day on the chin and a €700 replacment cost for the window and damage. Not cool! France was begining to become expensive.
The rest of the week we visited the markets each day, indulging in local cheese, olives and fresh baguettes. Visited the Absenth Bar on several occasions, definately one of the most unique bars you will find. Most of our time spent relaxing or prepairing to relax. Antibes is a cool place, mind the opportunists!
From Antibes we were to head to Venterol in the heart of wine country. A small village where we would make some changes to Chardy and catch up with Margo and Ross.
