Day 13 - Korowe to Dar Es Salaam
Not much to say here except this was another huge day of driving. The traffic jams coming into Dar Es Salaam were something to behold. You know when there's a pub called Traffic Jam Pub next to the road that you're likely not to move for sometime!!
The animosity towards us in Tanzania continued more notably today. Zap signs and sex gestures followed us from both children and adults alike. We also had a child throw a marble at the truck which hit Hilary in the arm. When the truck is stuck and not moving and all this is going on it really wasn't the most relaxing experience and made us question whether our presence in Tanzania was welcome. Our guide seemed to think that it was directed at him as he is Kenyan and therefore taking work away from a locals. The problem with this theory is that he wasn't sitting with us on the truck. Also alarming was the clear large warning on the toilet doors of the camp "Inside camp = safe, outside camp = not safe"!
Our campsite was on the beach so the relaxing feeling was pretty awesome. We spent the evening on the beach with the heat being rather stifling. We had a fish Braai and Jenny and I had managed to get a couple of bottles if JC le Roux to celebrate our news. A really lovely evening.
