Our train to Rome left Florence at around 5 in the evening and took about 3 hours. We could have got an express train in about half the time, but our inter-rail tickets didn't cover this and we would have had to pay 25 pounds so we put up with the longer journey. The train journey to Florence was an experience. We actually slept quite well in the cramp sleeper carridge, which we shared with two other people. We were woken up at about 6am by the rude Itaian conductor, who shoved us a greasy cake each and some strong coffee. Next stop Florence... It was quite a change for us to be out and about so early. We were up early in Innsbruck and down to the station for a 9 o'clock train to Geneva. We had a 3 hour journey to Zurich, then a quick change and a similar distance to Genava airport.
