Day 5: 19th Feb. by AJ.
Siem Reap, Cambodia!
Early start this morning (7am) but had an included buffet breakfast at the hotel. Thankfully I was feeling a lot better today!! Had a hilarious old school style camper van to take us to our first check point .. we got chased by a few stray dogs - Michael (a guy on our tour) was petrified of them, which was rather amusing!
After a long drive we got to the Thai/Cambodia border, where we got some club sandwiches (I was still worried about my stomach!) and some genuine Chanel sunglasses from a market stall for a bargain $1!! Brilliant! Had lots of passport stamps and checks as we walked across the border - our bags were pushed on a wooden cart! Also crossed no-mans land, which had casinos and lots of stalls selling booze and cigaretttes! Arrived in Siem Reap that afternoon and toured the little town, quite westernised due to all the tourism but very cute.
That evening, we went in tuk tuks to a nearby village (Khemer) - the ride there was so bumpy and the scenery into the country was great - we were very off the tourist trail. The host family for our evening meal then showed us around the village, just in time for the sunset over the sweetcorn fields. The meal was absolutely delicious, although Chris struggled slightly with the crossed-legs, as we all sat in a little shack on the floor! We played with the children in the village - it was fun but I didn't massively enjoy it as they started throwing bugs at me. Back in the town we headed to the night market and after a wander around the stalls all had a foot massage (more relaxing this time and no wooden sticks!) then Chris bartered a deal so we got a fish massage as well! It was the wierdest feeling but such a good laugh. The evening ended with drinks on pub street .... and a bloody football match on a big screen - so cultural! Although it definitely bonded the girls on one side and the boys on the other from the tour! :)
Day 6: 20th Feb. By Chris.
Ancient Temples of Angkor, World Heritage Site.
We woke up very early this morning in order to make it to the Ancient Temples of Angkok Wat for sunrise at 5am!!! We got some great views of the temple despite it being a bit hazy but defiinitely worth the early start.
There were 3 sets of temples which we visited, apparenly equating to the size of Wales between them!! Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the Bayon Temple.
They were incredible to look around and worth the early start. See Pictures on Facebook.... we took a hell of a lot!!! Including some great Tombraider shots which was filmed there.
That evening we went for a group meal at a local restaurant which had traditional Khemer dancers. We then hit a bar hard! Buckets were immense! Brilliant night, and good to get to know the other people in the group too.
