I'm done with all these late updates...at this pace I don't think I'll ever catch up; it's been one month since I loaded up my car and met the highway. Currently, I'm sitting down to dinner at the Galaxy Diner in Flagstaff, AZ and watching some very lively couples do swing dance. To summarize since Seattle, imagine long hours in my car and stops for only one night, tonight included and you may have a handle on the exhaustion I'm feeling. I'm so ready to be back in my own bed where I can hibernate for 2 days straight. Make no mistake, this has been one hell of an adventure but I'm ready to get back to normal and back home.
My host in Portland took me to a local concert...yay! I got to check out part of the music scene; very chill, laid back and great music. Look up The Woods if you're interested or curious. Carina was likely the most excited host I've had so far; she was full of questions as to how a petite, young-looking girl like me can command high school teenagers, half of whom are far bigger and taller than I. What ensued was a deep conversation involving two completely different perspectives, backgrounds, values...you name it: that scene was CS history in the making. A conservative Texas girl never afraid to stand her ground and a much more liberal girl from Oregon who wasn't too keen on my assertive nature. Then again, I've been on my own in a manner of ways for most of my adult life whereas this is her first time handling life alone. For those of you who know me well, I don't have to go into any further details on where that conversation went. As a side note, this journey has been very mind-expanding and I find myself much more open to people around me, especially those willing to open their home to me. It's been quite a liberation to no longer sweat the small things that don't really matter much in the end.
In the morning, we shared some of Seattle's best doughnuts from Top Pot (yummy!) and I was on my way back to the Oregon coastline and towards Brookings to finish my businees with the Coastal Highway.
