It was dark and raining when we arrived, but we had a most amazing BBQ meal at the restaurant of the hostel which was the perfect comfort food. We decided that it was ideal weather for a movie and an early night (while we can).
It was still raining a bit the next day, but managed to have a dry coffee plantation tour where we saw a coffee plantation next to the river, went through the process of coffee production and the also savoured the end product. Was a really lovely cupa indeed.
After chatting about Cuba, Lisa decided that Cuba would be a good idea and wanted to join as we were going to be a pretty cool group going. However the computor and wifi system was a bit too slow to book in La Serana and then eventually when we got it to work, but the foreign card just wasn't recognised. We were going to have to wait to book in Medellin.
There was a cafe called "Brunch" in town that was known for making the most amazing peanut butter brownie. Ofcourse trying this was a must and indeed it was divine stuff!
That evening Ivan showed up at La Sarana, was so good to see a familiar Cali face. Lisa, Ivan and 2 other Swedish girls and I made our way to the Caucora Valley and took horses up. My "fletcha" (meaning arrow) horse was true to his name and was leading the pack at speed over really rocky terrain, steep drops and climbs along the river and waterfalls. We walked up to a tree house and had Agua Penela Calientes with cheese (Hot Sugarcane) and chicha (local maiz drink). We walked to the top of the moutain area which usually should have an amazing view, but we were greeted with fog instead. On the way down though the view became clearer and we were able to see some of the palm trees. There are loads of these really high palm trees around and are said to grow 1cm a year so can safely assume they were really ancient.
Had the local Trucha (freshwater trout) with Lisa and the 2 other Swedish girls at one of the restaurants before heading off to pack (again). We made our way to Armenia again where we got an overnight bus to Medellin. As we left at 11pm and it was a 6 hour bus journey we arrived at 5am not so bright eyed and bushy tailed at the south terminal of Medellin. We got slightly ripped off by the Cab driver charging us 12000COP instead of 6000COP, but arrived safely at the Happy Budha Botique Hostel which seemed to be more of a hotel set up but of course very nice.
