Rotorua, New Zealand
Our trip (Kim and I) started with renting a motor home in Wellington and road tripping up to the Rotorua in North Island of New Zealand. Since we are from New Zealand, State Highway One is a regular sight, but the scenery still blows me away. Our real adventure started when we got into Taupo. Our to-do list was packed and our itinerary was planned out so we could experience everything in just three days! This was a hard task as there are so many different activities and amazing adventures to be had. The first thing on our list was to find a campsite to spend the night in our motor home; the trick is to find a place that will have incredible views when you wake up. We did just that, just check out the photos! After some breakfast we were on the road again, refreshed, ready for action with the music playing, strangely enough "On the Road Again" by Canned Heat.
Rotorua appeared over the hill in no time, since this was day two and we were eager for adventure, we went straight to the Agrodome which is literally exploding with activities to make you go woooaaahh! The sign read, Bungy Jumping and Extreme Free Falling. That sounds like us! After we mentally prepared, we jumped, which was mental, but extremely fun. I wanted to go again but Kim said once was enough. Anyway we still had lots more to do! We then got on the Zorb, essentially a big blow up Swiss ball with you inside. The lovely staff had no problems in giving us a shove down the hill, where we bounced down at great speed! We did that one again, it was just too much fun. After a hard day of activities we took a ride on the Agrojet to the natural hot pools, some of the best in the world. After going woooahh all day, ahhh came next as we sunk into the thermal hot pools. A perfect way to cap off an adrenaline filled day.
Day three started much like day two, awaking to a beautiful lake surrounded by trees and sky and not another campervan or tourist in sight! All of these areas are free of charge, so we could spend our money on other things, like Motor Biking! This was next on our list, it may have been my idea but we both really enjoyed it, even though we both fell off. After the Motor Cross, we headed to the mighty Whakarewarewa Park, home to the large redwood family and a geothermal wonderland. The redwoods were very impressive, and there was something very special about taking a deep breath in a place like that, the smells and air are so pure, gotta be good for the health.
After the walk through the forest, it was time for some more relaxing and pampering. Since this was our last day we headed to the popular Hells Gate for the ultimud package. The package included a thermal mud spa and massage with access to the thermal pools at anytime. Highly recommended to anyone heading to Rotorua or the North Island, guaranteed the most relaxed you've ever been, well it was for us anyway.
This trip was such an amazing experience and contrast to anything we have done before in just three days. Waking up every morning to breathtaking scenery definitely helped with the motivation to get everything ticked off our list! The extreme activities, forest walks and pampering spas gave the perfect balance of fun, adrenaline and relaxing time.
