1001 Degrees Of Latino Heat!!!
hi everyone just as i promised i would keep you all updated. now i dont even know where to start ive been here for one day but i have already done so much, met so many people and see so many wonderful sights. madrid is beautiful, the architecture, the people the culture, the atmosphere this city is amazing.
DEPARTING THE STATE. the keys on this computer are all screwed up there are all these new buttons, and old buttons are gone or someplace else. someone needs to return this to the manufacturer or something. anyway the flight over was extremely long but luckily enough i sat next to an older lady from milwaukee wisconsin, good conversation i actually gave her my email address so we could keep in touch.
there were two other american cats that were traveling solo like me but they were going straight away to pamplona, like me they were just going to rough it in the streets. apparently there has already been a disastrous injury. a new zealand man was gored and is now paralyzed.
MADRID. after spending ages in the airport getting my bearings, exchanging currency and talking with more americans i finally had to catch a shuttle bus to the metro station. the metro was a bit confusing at first but after going back and forth asking different people for help and going through all the maps i got everything situated and i was on my way to the hostel. dude i am so wary when im on the metro with all the stories ive heard about pickpockets being so slick and sneaky they will steal your underwear and take your manhood without you even noticing. i was standing in the station eyeballing everyone, i had my neck thingy on but people told me that pickpokets can even get those without anyone noticing. at one point i thought about stashing my passport and debit card in the crack of my ass but i figure that may be taking the whole security thing a bit too far.
as i exited the metro and actually saw madrid for the first time i was reminded a little of san francisco. this was a very quick first impression and didn~t last long, madrid is the best city i have ever visited period end of conversation doo dup! the buildings are all old, narrow streets just what you would expect of a european city. i love it. i dont want to leave.
on top of all that there are no fat people here. i am so jealous of the spaniards. the women here are gorgeous, all are thin very stylelish and just so damn european. i fall in love about every ten seconds or so, thats how good it is. funny side story. after checking into the hostel and contacting my friend i decided to step outside and take a quick walk without my humoungous backpack, to get a feel for the city. like i said no fat people. i ended up getting lost for a while *many of the streets initially look the same but i found my way home and decided to just sit in the lobby and wait for my friend to arrive. as i was sitting in the lobby two girls from s. africa walk in. they were checking in and waiting for the guy at the counter so being the charmer that i am i struck up conversation with these girls. i was relating to them my first impressions of the city and i started to tell them how much different it is then the states. So i say I LOVE IT HERE THERE ARE NO FAT CHICKS!!! and i had forgotten that one of the girls was a fat chick...HA HA, i felt like a jack ass. it was just one of those mental mistakes. after i said that they just kind of scooted off and talked amongst themselves probably thinking something about americans being jackasses or something.
after checking into the hostel and waiting around my hospitalityclub contact belen arrived to take me on a tour of the city. hospitalityclub is the greatest website ever! belen spent the whole day and night with me. i met her boyfriend and her friends and all of these people were just so great, kind and very welcoming of an american. me and belen spent the day walking from one sight to another talking the whole time. we hit it off well communication was only slightly a problem her english is good and i could understand most of her spanish.
Belen made me a spanish sandwich, it was like a footlong with ham and egg and it was bomb. so after walking around and visiting many sites her boyfriend marcos met up with us. hes a great guy we had some good conversations about bush, politics the different cultures and hiphop, the dude knows more about underground hip hop then i do he was naming american groups i never even heard of, it was a little embarrisng in a way. as for bush i tell people that bush is an embarresment for many americans its like a kid that has an alcoholic father that everyone knows about and the kid is just ashamed about it but cant really do anything to change it.
as day turned to evening we began to walk to some of the pubs taking drinks here and there. i had me some spanish sangria, tasty and a spanish omelet. good stuff. at this point jet lag was hitting me, it was ten o clock at night and the sun was barely setting. the streets were crowded with people. kids playing soccer in the streets, old folks shopping very cool.
Belen and Marcos told me that in spain people eat lunch at 3 and dinner at 10 pm. imagine that. at somepoint marcos left and me and belen went to a few more pubs before meeting some of her friends at a park. we got to this park at 11 pm and it is a custom of the spanish people to meet in parks and squares and drink, talk before going out to clubs or bars. the night life starts late here and goes on until 7 in the morning. so were in this park surrounded by tons of people just relaxing and drinking with friends. Belens friends arrived and once again they were really cool people. i told them how much i love barcelona football club and they all got hurt. its like someone favoring the giants over the dodgers. we stayed at this park until 230 am or so. i was buzzing like a buzz saw and the jetlag was not helping. i got back to the hostel alright and in my drunken tired state i still had it in me to hit on the girl bunking next to me. she had just gotten into bed as well. i tried making conversation but she said that she was tired and going to sleep, then she turned over and started to fake snore... so much more i left out but damn this is a long message take care of yourselves
