Today we got up early, feeling a hell of alot better then we did yesterday. After a quick run along the river and around an old graveyard we hit the train station and slid onto the 11:10 train from Munich to Tegernsee just as the doors were closing and the engines were firing. An hour later we found ourselves in the quaint lakeside town of Tegernsee which is well known for it's hiking, gorgeous lake and the Tegernsee Brauhaus. We headed into the hills not exactly sure where we were hiking, but eventually found ourselves on the trail to Glausen. Hmmm, sure, sounds nice enough. We hiked for an hour of steady up hill through some amazing woods which were turning gold, orange and red as the autumn sets in. At the top we were rewarded with an awesome view of the surrounding mountain peaks and the sun soaked balcony of the restaurant and beer garden at Glauen. Now this is a type of hiking I can get down with! We enjoyed a 0,5 liter of the local brew while taking in the views and trying to decipher the menu. In the end we decided to head down and hit a grocery store in town to get some lunch. We sat on the waterfront and ate cheese, tomatoes, crackers and marinated artichoke hearts. Gourmet, I know.
No trip to Tegernsee is complete without a session at the Brauhaus, so we headed that way and Gina flexed her German skills in ordering a beer and a schnapps. The waitress kept talking to her as though she was a local, G had so impressed with her accent. A quick jaunt back to the train station again to slide onto the train as the doors closed. The 15:57 train back should have us home in plenty of time to meet with the crew back in Munich for some evening antics. A great afternoon spent in the Bavarian countryside!
