Manuella and I left San Pedro at 9am in the morning and arrived at the hostel in San Salvador and 7pm that night. We were definately in a safe area of the city as it was full of Burger Kings, KFC, Pizza Huts and Wendy's.
On the Saturday night we headed out with another couple of people to a local bar to watch El Salvador vs Mexico in a world cup qualifier. What a fantastic atmosphere. It is the first time I have really experienced the mayhem of a soccer match in one of the latin countries. The only way I can really explain it is that it has a similar atmosphere as an Aussie rules grand final game but with EVERYONE following the same team. All I can say is thank god that El Salvador won. I am not sure what would have happened otherwise. The streets were full of people dancing around, rocking cars as they drove past, letting crackers off in the street and hi-fiving through the car windows. After the match we went out to a salsa bar for a little while before heading out to another bar. On the way home (close to sunrise) there were still people out on the street celebrating the soccer win.
We didn't do much during the other days. Just relaxed a little, watched some cable TV (which was the first time in a very long time) and did a little shopping in one of the large malls for a few items I needed (mosquito repellent mainly).
I had then decided that I was going to head straight to Nicuagua after San Salvador as the prices are a lot cheaper. Manuella was going to head to the beach for a week, so we are now going our seperate ways. She was great fun to travel with. I had met someone else from Australia, however has been living in the UK for the past 7 years (Bec) and she is also heading to Nicuagua on Tuesday, so I am going to tag along with her for a few days.
