Our last full day together on the trip. This morning we drove out to the little historic town of Richmond. It deserves all the hype it gets as it is very pretty and impressive with historic stone buildings everywhere! We went there mainly to visit ZooDoo. It's a zoo that looks like someone decided to convert their farm, so a bit daggy, but lots of fun. Unfortunately the weather was pretty horrendous with wind and rain making everyone cold. We saw Tassie Devils! And white wallabies, sugar gliders, kangaroos, llama, deer, emus and ostriches. We got to go on a little bus ride and hand feed the emus and ostriches. We all had a go at lion feeding! With bits of meat on the end of tongs through a wire grate but still very impressive and a little bit scary.
Then we made the drive all the way down the Tasman Hwy to Port Arthur. The weather did not let up. Amanda and I were really glad we made the drive but the kid's hearts were just not in it. It's an amazing place and much of it very well preserved. We did the cruise around the bay out to Puer Island where they kept the boys as young as 9. The separate prison was an exercise in physical and mental torture. The gardens and church both very impressive in scale and beauty.
In the carpark, there were lots of cars on a charity rally - interesting collection of cars, paint, stickers, and drivers.
