After flying Melbourne to Sydney, Sydney to Auckland, Auckland to Santiago, Santiago to Lima, we finally arrived.
We hated Lima on first site as we drove through the city in our private taxi. It is so frantic, smoggy and full of people. They have cool painted mini vans for most of their buses with a guy hanging out of it all the time and grabbing people and pulling them on! they drive like maniacs pulling out all the time but don´t seem to have accidents. The thing that annoyed me the most was the beeping - in peru the taxi drivers beep twice every time they pass anyone - even if they have passengers! So annoying. We slept for 14 hours once we got to Lima and were staying in a cool suburb which is called Miraflores which is similar to St Kilda except it has a gazillion casinos. The neighbouring town Barranco (like Elwood) is even cooler, and we had a great time there at the beach. Lima is quite smoggy but by the water it is a lot better.
The men however are terrible everywhere you go - they not only look you up and down before you come up to them, they also look you straight in the eye when you are walking past. This is very weird! The food in Lima was great. The first time we went to a touristy type place so the food was triple what it should have been but then we found this fantastic little cafe off the beaten track that had the best juice I´ve ever drunk. After less than a day in Lima, we moved on to Huaraz but as it is the stop off to go to most places we will be back at least twice.
Lima is the base for everywhere you go basically so we´ll visit it at least 3 times before we go which is a shame because it isn´t great!
