Dear All,It has been a while and I have done a lot again! I won't go in to too much detail because I think the photos tell the best story!
After a fun time traveling through the North Island, I arrived in the South Island a couple of days a go, I had a lovely group of friends to travel with in the North and unfortunately we had to leave most of them in Wellington and I am now with a different group. The new group is full of testosterone and a bit louder, so it’s taking a bit of getting used to!
Highlights of traveling down through the North Island have to be -
Rock & Ropes course – This was so cool that I’ve given it, its own blog entry, under Taupo.
Going on the Luge - Pete, Gillian and I went to the Luge Park. At the luge park you travel up a big hill in a gondola and then a chair lift and ride on a cart back down. We had such fun racing each other down the hills on our carts, except I frightened myself a bit when I tipped on one side!
Thermal pools - There are loads of these around Rotorua and they smell quite a bit cos of the sulphur! I loved the pools of boiling mud the best because they make such a good sound.
Eligible bachelor - The owner of the bar in Waitomo won NZ's most eligible bachelor competition and he is emailing me! Nothing like that though!
Flight to the South Island - The ferry to the South Island was $45 and the plane was only $61, so I decided to fly (also it meant that I could have a lie in!). I was the only one who decided to fly from the Kiwi bus, but I really enjoyed it. The plane was only a 12 seater thing so it was quite exciting. We got fab views and I've put pictures on up of the trip because it was beautiful.
I have to say that I love the South Island because it’s beautiful and we have had very good weather. Highlights of the South island so far are –
Nelson - Our first night (20th) was spent in Nelson and I loved Nelson because it was so pretty! I did loads of walking in the hills around Nelson and one walk was to the centre of NZ.S
eal colony – I could have watched them for ages because they were so funny flopping around and playing in the sun!
Our fancy dress party – Last night we had a fancy dress party, at Lake Mahinapua in our lodge. Everyone had to come dressed as something beginning with ‘P’. It was brilliant and everyone made such a good effort with their outfits, especially considering we only had half an hour to shop for them in Greymouth. There are plenty of pictures of the night for you to see / laugh at!
I’ve added a lot of photos to bore you to death and I am going to try to add some video footage of me doing Rock & Ropes course.
I’ve decided to add on the trip around the very bottom of the South Island to my Kiwi ticket because I really want to see the penguins and sea lions – can’t wait! Also, there is a massive brewery and Cadburys factory in Duneden.
Oh and guess what I’m doing tomorrow ……I’m going on a helicopter ride, up over the Franz Josef glacier and doing a 2 hour hike in the ice! I’m really looking forward to it because I’ve seen brilliant pictures of it. I had the option of doing an 8 hour trip to hike up on to the glacier and back, for about half the price. But I was feeling a little lazy and took the helicopter option! Also, I’ve had a cold so I don’t think my chest is up to the big hike in the thin air (well that’s my excuse anyway!). Here is the link to the trip http://www.franzjosefglacier.com/heli-hike.html
I will be in touch with the pictures from my heli hike on the glacier soon
I hope you are all well and I truly do miss you, even though I’m having a fab time. I am nearly a quarter of the way through and it is so scary how quickly it is going.

Juha Sompinmaeki Hi, your heli hike link is broken. Maybe you should replace to this resource about Franz Josef http://www.kiwi-directory.com/franz-josef-glacier/
