ok so the blog messages are carazy....grandad have you opened a zoo?!! spent the last few days trekking which was amazing!!! the first night we went to a homestay, so a thai family cooked us dinner and the local children played instruments and tought us how to use them. the en suite facilities were not up too scratch...holes in the ground cannot deal with! the next morning we went on the trailer of a tractor to get to the bottom of where we were going to start trekking for three days. drove past rice fields banana trees little huts was beautiful! the tractor kept stopping so our guide (home....legend!!!) could pick fruit of the trees for us to eat, some more adventurous than others! day one of the trek was through very dense jungle up the side of a waterfall. very very very steep scramble most the way, and we had to carry packs with three days worth of things in, plus being in the heat. first stop was at a very small waterfall, only a quick break. carried on trekking for another 2 hours then were rewarded by a massive waterfall approximately 40m high, with the jungle canopy above it was great! we carried on walkin uphill to reach our home for the night. we stayed with the Lisu tribe on our first night. The night we were there they were celebrating chinese new year, as they orignate from china. This involved dancing with the locals round a pole (not pole dancing!) and being "forced" to drink moonshine...an illegal whisky about 60-90% was not a good experience...and they dont like it if you refuse! they carry on partying until midnight i think then all of a sudden the village is dead. the Lisu tribe people were very friendly and were very keen to involve us in their celbrastion. we went back to where we were sleeping and layed on the balcony in our sleeping bags looking at the stars as it was pich black..gorgeous! Day two we were woken up by the roosters at like 6:30am bt oh well, after an avergae nights sleep on wooden "bed" we started trekking again.First we walked up to this shrine thing were the tribe men do stuff there the day after chinese new year (cant remember what..soemthing to do with a spirit!!) went up there and they were still drinking moonshine, and offered it to us. very surreal experience as felt as though we were intruding on their traditions even though they liked us joining in so it was fine. day two was supposidly easier as it was downhill, but we where walking in the sun all day...such a dodgy tan from my rucksack straps! we walked across the tops of the mountains today, good views of the farm land through the whole valley. rice again for lunch and dinner! yummy :) tonight we stayed at Akha tribe village this was more "modern" compared to the lisu tribe the night before, and i was very impressed with there solar panelsm, however not really any electricty! this was the third cold shower id taken in a wooden hut! at least im still washing! the children in this village were adorable, soo cheeky and when we were walking round the village they followed us and where playing. oo but we saw a little piglet wandering round and we were stroking it, next thing we knew we heard it squeeling and being put in a bag...we walked further and then saqw it being skinned on a bbq..each to there own i suppose...we did have pork with rice for dinner, but im hoping it was a different pig! so again we slept on wood, but these huits are very impressive with amazing views again! woken up even earlier this morning by children playing and roosters and chickens and pigs and scooters...and sam (one of our guides) who insisted on breakfast being at 7! pancakes tho mmmm :) so last day of walking (12miles ish today) set of very early, but was still soo hot, in the thirties every day. walked through fields and jungle and orange plantations, tobacco plants, coffee bean plants, ate papaya fresh from the tree. was really cool day. we finished our trek around 1pm, was quite sad to finish actualy after such a good few days! Since finishing the trek we have visited the golden triangle, where thailand, burma and laos meet. We sailed along the mekong river which was very cool, good views, and went to laos for a bit (thats another country to tick off) it was very poor and quite dirty, but that was only a part of the country, the boat ride was the best part though. theres so much to write but thats all youre getting at the moment as im having memory lapses!! hope your all well! going on an over night train tonight....so good to sleep on! xxxx
