So then, here i am again, this is my second attempt at doing this as i ran out of time on the first go :(
Well, what can i say, i havent done this for a while have i, sorry... well since the last time i wrote on here i have ate an ear, rolled down a big hill backwards in a van, hit a kangaroo (not me, well abbi has) etc etc...
Before i go into all of that, HONG KONG:
We arrived in Hong Kong via plane, (obviously) and got a train and taxi to our hostel which was very well centrally located. Apart from the occasional ant and flies in the room it was fine, and we even had some chinese tv :) Hong Kong though was an amazing place, me and Abbi both loved it. It was soo much cleaner and nicer than Bangkok, and there were also a lot less people hasseling you to buy a suit, got your feet massaged by fish, deep fried crickets the list goes on. We met up with Phillipa's good friends Derek and Lucie and their twins. Lucie took us to a beach market town type thing which was lovely and she even brought us both an ice cream, so in my good books straight away :) In the evening they took us to a restaurant on the Harbour called the 'Yacht Club' which was amazing. This is where me and Derek thought that it would be a good idea to try 'marinated pigs ear' as a starter, the girls didnt go along with this and ordered potato skins... For some reason we both had the idea of them coming crispy, but when they arrived were we in for a shock. It lieterally looked as if they got shreded from the poor pig 2 minutes before being put in front of us. We were brave though and tried one, and yes... just the one and promptly pushed them away and had a potato skin. They didnt have much of a taste but as they were ears they didnt have much meat on them, and was just gristle and fat really, not something i would recommend. After the meal we all went to a bar called 'Red', now this is somewhere i would recommend!!!! Its located on the top of a building with other buildings surronding it and also with a nice view of the rest oh Hong Kong. Derek went to the bar and got us all drinks and he also managed to come back with a lot of Tequilas, the bar staff just basically give them away for free, something to note if anyones going to Hong Kong and fancies a drink :) So that was a lovely evening thank you Lucie and Derek again :) The following day we went to a theme park called 'Ocean Park'. They had, Giant Pandas, Red Pandas, Crocodiles, dolphins and loads of other animals there and also rollercoasters :) Yes Ben i have been on 2 rollercoasters now that you havent :) The rest of our time in Hong Kong consisted of walking around in awe of how beautiful everything was, so all in all a very succesfull trip :)
Land of the Pommies:
The first two nights of our 6 week stay in oz was spent in a backpackers called JJ's in Cairns. Met some brialliantly people there and got very drunk both nights and spent far too much money, but it was all for a good cause...... alcohol. :) After the first 2 days we then picked up our campervan 'Betty' which is really cool. We stayed another night in Cairns as we were quite hungover from the night before from drinking a lot of Tequila and cocktails out of teapots, and so the next day we drove up to Port Douglas which is a beautiful little town by the coast. From Port Douglas we went snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reaf. I was quite apprenentious about this as everyone knows how i dont like the sea, but i was assured by lots of people that have been scuba diving that they have never seen a shark so i wouldnt. It was going really well, we saw 'Nemo' (clown fish), a massive giant clam, some massive fish, i swam alongside a turtle, littlerally a foot away from it, and then.... yes you guessed it, we saw a shark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know i was going to, of course i was going to. it was a black tip reef shark and was probably about a meter and a half long which isnt very big granted but it looked just as scary as one that could have been 10 meters long. So, shark count is at 1!!!! Ater another night spent in Port Douglas, we decided to drive to Cook Town which is even further north, we didnt anticipate how long this was going to take, we set off at about 5 think it would take an hour and a half at most as it gets dark by 6 30 and its bad to drive at here at night. 3 hours later and we were still an hour away from Cook Town and it got pitch black a long time ago, i thought it was quite cool as we had massive bats flying overwards, but Abbi was petrified as she couldnt stop thinking about Wolf Creek. Oh and this road was in the outback and in our 4 hours drive we saw another 3 lorries at most, so that was random. As the trees started to come in to the road a little more, a massive amount of Kangaroos were also by the road along with cattle, which wasnt to random. This road wasnt lit up either, literally a random road through the outback, fun though :) about 30 mins left of our journey there were a silly amount of Kanagroos on the side of the road, as we were driving through one jumped out in front of the van and, you guessed it, Abbi plowed right through it, killing it instantly, it was quite a big one but luckily did no damage to 'Betty'. When we finally got there Abbi had stopped crying and we stopped in the first campsite we saw, nice drive i thought :) Next day we went on a little drive through Cooktown taking pictures of the sights and went to go up to the light house... which was a mistake. People recommended it so we thought why not, half way up this massive hill the tarmac turned to gravel and the van wheelspined and started rolling backwards, i had to delicatley, using the brake and handbrake roll down backwards lol, luckily there were no cars behind us... On our way down south we have stopped off at the Whitsunday Islands and been to the beach in the picture above, which i think looks better when we saw it, absolutley amazing. On the beach there were loads of milk fish and you waiting for it, you guessed it i saw another shark. it was attacking these fish and came right up onto the shore, people had to move out of the way so it didnt get them. Shark count 2!!!! After our beautiful BBQ on the beach where we were watched closely by this monitor lizard for food scraps we went snorkelling at Mantaray Bay. This was also beautiful and saw the biggest fish to date, they were half the size of me. So me and Abbi just cassually minding our own business looking at this fish..... you know whats coming dont you, dont laugh because its not funny, i dont like the sea for a very valid reason, yes.... we saw yet another shark.... this one was a bit bigger than all the rest, and was a white tipped reef shark!!!! Thats it, my snorkelling days are over, thats it!!!! That evening we met a couple from Melbourne who took us fishing, which was really cool. Abbi caught a baby barramundi and a 'grunter', i caught nothing, i thought i was going to get a shark on the end of my line considering thats all i see when i get near the sea. We are now at Surfers Paradis which is beautiful, and the sea is amazing. i t has about 10 foot waves that are brilliant to mess around in until you get flung off your feet, hit the bottom and swalloe a lot of sea water. tomorrow we are heading off to Byron Bay which should be nice.
To be continued......
Much love
