Abi's SE Asia Trip
Hey thought photos would be better so you can see the pretty places... there have been no more motorcycles though many other modes of transport!!! Its been amazing so far 12 hours trekking up into the mountains to stay with the most amazing villagers ever they are so welcoming well worth the walk and the painful bum!!!! The local people in the mountains still wear the traditional dress and it was authetinc not just put on for the tourist. A lot of the older women had black teeth this was seen has sexy (god knows why) it is caused by the bettle nut they chew (two guys had a similar effect but smoking the local fags at only 3p a ciggarette its no wonder they had black teeth) anyway they chew it to numb the pain because they used to exchange there3 teeth and replace them with gold so there money couldnt be stolen however it left them withstubs when removed...really painful. Whilst walking around the locals invited us to try planting rice it was very muddy!!!! amd they founmd it hysterically funny ...i wasnt very good, but with practise!!! Also stopped of in a kindergarden...these kids rivalled katelyn in cuteness (katelyn was cuter of course but it was very close!), Once back in hanoi we left quite promptly for halong bay after we had had showers as we had all gone without for 3 days. Halong bay is becoming more touristy so it was a contrast to the quietness of the hills howvere still beautiful we went kayaking around the karsts it makes you feel very small... me and ginny eventually goit the hang of it though passing junk boats were quite worrying. AM now sat back in hanoi internet cafe waiting to board the overnight train to Hue... have seen everything in hanoi so am quite glad to go onto new things though the highlight so far has to be the hilltribe trekking. The pictures of the killing courtyard in the album is in the hanoi hilton (the prison) i really liked it there is was really interesting to see how the locals were treated and read documents about escapees. Anyway will post more pics when I can and have brought a vietnam sim so am going to ring you mum as soon as i leave here!!!... promise!!
