Hello Everyone, sorry for the delay. Thankyou for all your message posts, its really nice to hear from everyone. I will send some emails when i next get a chance.
Tuesday 29th Had to leave Koh Lanta today which i didnt really want to do, but i don't have that much time left so had to move on! Got a boat to Railay beach, about an hour and a half away. Tried to stay out of the sun but its near impossible on an open top boat, so just covered up and spent my time on Shark watch. I didnt actually see any, but i know theyre out there somewhere, at least if i see one, Tess won't be able to call me a wimp because ill only go in the sea for about 10 meters. arrived in Railay then had to catch a long tail boat (A long wooden boat with a rusty car motor, attatched to a long pole with rotor blades on the end. I still wonder what happens if they ever break down, theres definately no paddles on board) to Ton Soi, the beach we wanted to stay on. Its much cheaper and more backpacker-y. Ton Soi is absolutely beautiful. There are these amazing rock formations and its kind of in a jungle. These guys warned us when we first got there that they had had snakes and spiders and a rat in their room, but not to worry as it was to be expected given the forest. Well im sure you can imagine my delight at this news, after coming from the gorgeous KoH Lanta, where the worst to be expected was a Gecko. So we settled for a nice bungalow not too far in the 'jungle'. (after I'd made Tess check the bathroom five times)
Wednesday 30th Tess went with Kelly, one half of a nice Australian couple we had met at dinner, to a lagoon today. But i was feeling really tired do just lazed on the beach all day and had an early night after a few cocktails. I did meet this American woman though who works for expedia, and asked her what she thought of the greyhound busses, as ive been a bit apprehensive, and she said theyre absolutely fine. So Im not so worried anymore!
Thursday 31st we went with Kelly and Al (the other half) on a boat trip. Me and Tess had to scramble round the rocks to get to Railay beach for about 20 minutes which wasn't hugely pleasant, but i should imagine its even worse at high tide! The boat trip was great, the guy took us to these islands, one being called Chicken island. If you look at my photos you'll see a rock which resmebles a chicken's head. Personally i think it looks more like a Turkey, but i don't know if they have them in Thailand... We stopped on a nice beach for a couple of hours then headed back for dinner. Kelly and Al are staying at this really nice resort on Railay, so we cheekily used their pool and sun loungers. Nobody said anything, but i felt really paranoid, like somebody was going to jump up and shout "THERES POOR BACKPACKERS IN OUR POOL", luckily nobody did... We went back to our beach, this time over the top rather than a scramble around the rocks, it was in the dark though so was a little hairy.
Friday 1st February The s***tyest day so far by a long stretch. We had booked our boat for the day, and it was supposed to be an 'express' service that got us in to Koh Pha Ngan at half four, and left at half 8 in the morning, using one air con minivan and one ferry. What a bloody scam! We got a bus for an hour to one place, then had to wait an hour and a half before another minivan turned up, then after that wait another 2 hours before being picked up by what can only be described as some sort of cattle wagon. It had no sides, no air con and was full of sweaty westeners. What a fantastic day to get food poisoning too!! Anyway. We finally reached the ferry port and had to wait another hour, before getting the ferry at 4. I had to lean over the boat the entire time as i thought i was going to throw up. it didnt help that the sea was very choppy!! We finally got to Pha Ngan at about half 6 and got a taxi into the centre. This nice girl in the taxi told us somewhere cheap and clan to stay (in all honesty i would have paid anything just to have somewhere to lie down at that point) It was Tess's birthday, and i was feeling a little better, so after checking in and i had laid down for a while, we walked around for a bit and then sat down at a restuarant so tess could eat. (the restaurants displaying their seafood really helped my stomach) and then an early night.
