Greetings from San Francisco! So we've arrived in America and straightaway noticed several things - it's cold, American's love Paul Simon and peanut butter (they're everywhere) people keep giving us free stuff and the toilets are weird.
We arrived on Monday and went through customs where the customs officer spent the whole time talking about his upcoming holiday to Australia and didn't care that I was carrying food, to be specific Vegemite. Which we still haven't eaten. We got a taxi to the Mosser (because do you KNOW how heavy those bags are) and it was a yellow taxi and the taxi driver (whilst probably ripping us off) gave us a tour on the way to our hotel. First stop upon arrival was Bloomingdales for the purchase of expensive American chocolate (more peanut butter). Followed by dinner at an All-American diner with "fiiive dolla shakes". Awesome!
But I'm sure you don't want to read all of this, so highlights - changing to a hostel in the middle of the "entertainment district" (read porn shops and strip clubs), going to Haight Ashbury (hippies and drugs), BIG PIZZAS (see photos - awesome), doing a night tour of Alcatraz, being tourists in Fisherman's Wharf, being picked up by fireman (free tour of the firestation, photos in the firetruck and offers to slide down their fireman's pole) and meeting some cool people at the entertainment district hostel.
And that was San Francisco. Join us next time for our riveting 20 hour bus trip to Seattle, my first experience of snow and the experience of twinkies.
