It started out cloudy and cool and we hopped for a break in the hot weather. Ybbs was 25k out and we were shooting for a coffee break there. There was a great bakery and we ended up spending a while there.
There is a lot of tour boats on the Danube in this area. The only thing we can figure out is there are a lot of castles and vineyards. We had a similar experience on the Rhein where all the castles were. The Benedictine Abbey in Melk is huge and really worth spending some time at.
Several times we had to detour because of construction putting us on narrow streets in quaint little villages. The detours also meandered through vineyards and orchards. What treat it was. We talked about getting off the route more just to do it again.
We've both come to the conclusion that these bikes are and advantage over our city bikes. We are averaging 3K more in overall speed and both our knees have stopped hurting. Small hills are significantly easier.
