The sun was setting over the mountains of Israel as we left Jordan behind us and then Saudi Arabia coming up on our port side and Egypt on our starboard side as we headed, back down the Gulf of Aqaba, for Sharm El Sheikh.
At Sharm El Sheikh we had a lazy, relaxing day sunbathing on the ship while others went ashore to 5 star hotels!?
Then today, 15th April, we transitted the Suez Canal. So different to the Panama Canal with deserts as opposed to jungles, and no locks. The Queen Elizabeth lead the convoy of 20 ships through the canal. We had a commentary, from our onboard lecturer and expert on Arabia, of the canal as we passed the War Memorial, the Railway Swing Bridge and the Al Qantarah Bridge.
12 noon by now and the Captain called for a minutes silence in memory of those who lost their lives on the sinking of the Titanic 100 years ago. This was preceded by a very brief speech about the tragedy . We left the Suez Canal mid afternoon and entered the Mediterranean Sea, a loud blast came from the ship's funnel to remind us we were nearly home.
The whole day ended with a commemorative dinner for the role played by the Cunard Ship, 'Carpathia', in the rescue of all the Titanic survivors.
This was another wonderful and memorable day spent on board.
