2017 10 01 - day 15 - Basel.
During the night, Wayne was woken by the sound of the ship going through a lock. He managed to get some photos.
In the morning, the ship arrived in Basel, Switzerland, where sadly, we leave the ship.
We had to be checked out of our room by 8.30 am but we can stay in the Lounge as long as we wanted.
We sat in the Lounge, had coffee, chatted to some of our new friends and our taxi came at 11.30 am.
We were booked on a TGV Lyria (high speed) train which left Basel at 2.34 pm. We sat at the station and watched the passing parade and had lunch to fill in time.
We got on the train and it was one of those 'very pointy nose' trains. Just in front of our seat was an information display. At one stage it indicated we were travelling at 316 kph!
Our two tickets cost $450.00 for a three hour train ride! Lunch (well if you could call it that), was included. It was an eighth of a sandwich, a small cup of dessert, a piece of fruit and a coffee!
The train arrived on time in Paris at 5.37 pm. We found our way to the taxi rank and caught a taxi to our hotel which was nowhere near where we thought it was!
Drama at the hotel - no booking even though we had confirmation of our reservation! After about 40 minutes of the Receptionist mucking around I said, 'so do you have a room'? Answer was yes! WTF with all that mucking around? He didn't want to process us booking in but wanted the night manager to do it!
We went out for dinner, found a restaurant and had a burger with wine. Nice change from 4 course lunches and 5 course dinners!
After dinner we had to deal with the night manager! Another 30 minutes of stuffing around!
Two nights will cost nearly $400.00 and it was certainly not worth it!
Up to our room for a well-earned shower and sleep! The shower head was amazing. It had LED lights in it! Started off green, turned orange then turned red. We have since seen advertisements for these types of shower heads to purchase and install.
