This is the first full day here for us. Obviously we are 'settling in' I suppose, but that hasn't taken long. We've discovered now that we also have a hot tub outside our room, which is an excellent find. Late night hot tub parties this week! But I've also come to realize that it will definitely be different from my other travels as there are all inclusive buffet meals (and so so sooooo much choice that you just have to have it all) and drinks. Hence why I believe I shall be drunk most of this trip. Dinner last night proved to be the same and I can imagine every night being like this. The staff here are very funny and friendly though. I think more so than they know. Our waitress impressed me with her wittiness when she brought our piña coladas over saying very loudly "whose ready for piñas? I have seven piñas and one virgin for you!" ....so witty. I just wonder how many TTs we need to show her for the piñas.
Anyways, today has been mostly getting a head start on my tan and us frolicking in the sea. It's been lovely just swimming up to the pool bar, having lovely cocktails and beer. We jumped into the sea too which is warmer than the pool! The side we are on has a fairly choppy sea, but that's more fun to play in. Or it is when we are all here as a family together anyway.
After we finished being lazy Becky, Isaac, Laura and I caught a taxi up to Buccoo bay to check it out. What I remember mainly about that journey is that on the radio they seemed to be advertising a course for 'sandwichology'; science behind making a great sandwich, I suppose.
We wanted to find this horse riding on the beach for Laura and also to see if these waves at mount irvine bay were actually any good (for future reference). I'm pleased to say that for a bit of fun surfing, they are. Buccoo bay was very pretty as well. It was fairly long and there were mangroves growing. Plenty of local people were enjoying the beach there too.
We seemed to encounter a man though who I feel was trying to trick us. When the taxi dropped us off, he explained to us how we could walk from Buccoo to mt irvine. As soon as we got out though a scruffy Caribbean man came over to us and tried to ask if we wanted to go on a boat tour. We told him no and that we just came to have a look for the future but that didn't seem to deter him. He insisted on trying to either get us to book a tour or for him to show us around. When we explained we didn't want that he told us he would show us how to get to mt irvine and made us follow him. Needless to say very quickly after being lead in a quite street with houses and no one around expect a white car with tinted black windows up ahead that previously driven by, we decided to get the hell outa there!
Eventually we made our own way to mt irvine bay. It really is beautiful. And the waves did look pleasant. We found a guy who could rent us surf boards and apparently give lessons, and even though it must have difficult for him, given how incredibly wasted he was, managed to write down his number for us and said we could book surfing lesson with him and his partner. It's nice everyone is so laid back here.
We are back home in the room now and the hot tub has now been filled up. So for today I'm signing off and gettin in that tub!
