Day 30, 12 July 2014, Bergen to Oslo train. Been on the road a month as of today - Four countries in and one to go - what an amazing trip. Thankfully a little cooler today and I went for a stroll down Marken, the quaint shopping area up behind the hotel. Not for actual shopping, just a recce to the train station and back. Ten minute flat stroll. Awesome. Brekkie, pack and down to the train. Somewhat like cats adoring allergy sufferers, I was allocated a seat in a group of four with an adult, a toddler and an infant. Sounds like the start of a bad joke... Thankfully the baby was happy with a feed periodically. More thankfully they got off at the 5 hour mark after a surfeit of feeding, playing, attention seeking and nappy changing. Was great to see the Bergen to Myrdal section of the line, but hands down the best scenery of the trip is at a place called Finse up at 1222 metres. Today's ear-popping shot is from there. It was broiling when I reached Oslo at 7 pm. Too hot to eat. Too hot to think. Particularly in my 10th floor single dog-box where the temperature readout was 32 degrees due to the sun pouring in all afternoon. (I think it was hotter, but that was the limit on the control panel.) Norway may well need to wake up to the fact that they do need air-conditioning as well as central-heating. (Thankfully first Oslo hotel had it and I chilled for 5 days!) Anyway - tootled down to reception and was allocated what could only have been the official tantrum-thrower's room, since they were apparently fully booked. It's not that I was going to throw a tantrum, but obviously looking like I was about to collapse and mentioning it would be embarrassing if I had to sleep in the air-conditioned elevator must have done the trick. Down on the 1st floor it had hardly received sun all day and was three times as big - and only 26 degrees - Bliss! Off to Brussels, Belgium tomorrow - will be the first time on a plane since I flew from Sydney to Amsterdam a whole month ago.
