Well, this is the first entry to my little bloggidy blog I suppose. Better say a bit about who I am! My name is James Devenport, I am 18 years old and I recently graduated from high school, which is quite nice. I rather enjoy playing guitar, listening to music (particularly metal - Nightwish are so awesome!), swimming, playing tennis, hillwalking and rock climbing. I'm not very tall, but I like to wear hats because they give the impression that I'm about half an inch taller than I really am. I'm so clever! :D Yeah, that's me. Good.
So, I will be going to Karamay for 12 months which is located in the north west of the Xinjiang province. It's gonna be freaking cold! I'll provide a little pointer on the map to give you guys an idea of where it is. Not in the wonderful land of China yet, not until the 20th of August, but I came back from the Project Trust Training Course 3 days ago and it was AWESOME!!!! :D Ahem...apologies. Honestly though, I was incredibly apprehensive about this whole Training Course shenanigans a few weeks before attending; about 4 billion thoughts were racing through my head. Things like, "What's my partner going to be like? Will I like him? Will he like me?" and, "This teaching thing looks pretty tough, can I do it?" and of course, "HOW ON EARTH WILL I LIVE IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY FOR 12 MONTHS? OH MY GOD, JAMES! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!". Then, along came the Training Course, swinging majestically on a conveniently placed rope with a dagger in it's mouth, ready to vanquish these feelings of doubt and despair! I did English in school, can you tell? ...That wasn't even funny, James. What are you doing?
Anyway, my partner is a very nice man named Callum Charlton (I'm crap with names, so if I misspelled your name, please don't get too mad!) who has the same dark, inappropriate sense of humour as I do which is just peachy! :) He says he's going to teach me how to juggle when we go to China which has me way more excited than it should do.
Everybody else on training was just wonderful and even though it's only about 7 weeks until we all see each other again at heathrow, I'm really going to miss them. :( There's a few of them in the photo there, look. Hello to you guys, if you happen to be reading. :)
So yeah, that's about it for now. Everything about this year away is suddenly feeling very real as I type this. I'm so excited, and yet so terrified! This must be what a sponsered skydiver must feel like. It's an in joke - Harrison and other James would get it. Yeah. So that's an awkward way to end this entry. There it is though. Ran out of interesting things to say; it's 1 in the morning. Bye.
James :)
