Our adventure from today was to travel across the south west of France from Bordeaux to Marseille
It looked as though Bordeaux was going to have a fine day!!! Alas, too late for us. We really loved Bordeaux and think a return visit could be on the cards one day.
We found vineyards at last as we travelled south. The vines seemed to have been heavily pruned back to their rootstock.
There were many small villages (mostly white stucco with orange roof). The many hilltop buildings could have been castles - they were a bit too far away to see.
At one point we were following a canal with long boats sailing along.
We also passed a nuclear power station.
The skies were blue at last.
The rail line was very busy and it seemed we met a train every 20 minutes or so - some frightened the life out of us!!!
For half of the journey we shared a carriage with five dogs. We were unable to book our usual first class seats so went cattle class, hence the dogs.
On our arrival at Marseille at 4.30 we hunted around for a hire car so we could drive out to the Millau bridge tomorrow. Finally found one from good old Avis.
As the sun was getting low in the sky we wandered down to the harbour. A ride in the huge 'eye' type wheel gave us some magic sunset shots of the city.
We've found Marseille to be very dirty and not well lit. Lots of rubbish lying around and graffiti everywhere. Like Bordeaux the majority of the population smokes too.
