Get to Bangkok at half 6 in the morning. Even though slept felt dead walking round Khoa San Road amazing to see the clean up that goes on from the night before on Khoa San Road my phone was dead so couldn't take pictures but seen 3 guys still passed out on the side of the road from it all! Starving so seen a 24/7 Maccys which went down a treat a Sausage Double Egg McMuffin it was as if God gave it to me it was that good. Short walk to Bas' hostel receptionist in there was a helmet and wouldn't let me have a shower in his room but never mind met Bas he gave me my visa which sorted in Krabi but couldn't print it out so he did that and then a taxi to the airport! Only a 1 hour and a half flight. Weirdest thing on the plane - sat next to a lady who was chatting to and I was saying how I managed a team of engineers who go into schools and sort all IT problems out etc before I came travelling and her mouth dropped. She is a head teacher in a school in Myanmar and the schools IT is shocking so she gave me her card and her Facebook name to add and said to give her a message to check out her school! Potentially got work out here so will hope to sort that over the next few days she literally is round the corner from our hostel as well?! I couldn't stop laughing and also with complete shock about it all as well. So get to Myanmar in Mandalay get to our hostel it is raved about on Trip Advisor the Yoe Yoe Lay and can see why the hostel manager is the most lovely person you could meet and her staff too. Love it! Rent out bikes - then the shock hits us. There are NO tourists round here we were riding round checking out some viewpoints and the locals literally point, laugh, discuss to each other how we are in there country they want to say hello as if you are an alien, take pictures with you in groups it is like you are a celebrity but in a weird and at times sort of racist way it is just massive that a white man is in there environment! So weird! Language barrier is difficult also we are trying to get to the grips with the basics as they haven't a clue about English. Checked out a few temples which was cool, headed out for dinner..... Haha! We tried to find this Chinese which was recommended and came across this place we thought might be it. Language barrier is incredible so we were like miming to eat like knife-fork-mouth etc.... They then took us into this karaoke room all jazzed up thinking we meant karaoke the stares we were getting we couldn't stop laughing it is hilarious! Quickly got out and found the Chinese which again was difficult had to go to the kitchens to choose what we wanted literally point to chicken, noodles, rice, veg etc. Got ripped off massively the bill was huge! Never mind the food was good. Back to the hostel where met our room mates I just zonked out I was knackered from the bus from Bangkok still but anyway, what a first day in Mandalay!
