Early start for a full day tour of Hue and some of the key highlights of the town.
The first stop was at Mang Ma tomb - one of the 3 Emperor's tombs we were to visit on the tour. Quite a large area with different temples on the grounds . The actual burial place has been lost as its on the mountain behind a locked wall. Still quite a nice area that they explained was good feng shui with the lakes and mountain.
Our 2nd stop was for the emperor Khe Dinh. This tomb was all mosaic. Very Gordy but colourful.
From there we watched a martial arts show which was really good - enjoyed that a lot. They moved so fast it was hard to get a good photo that was not blurred. One of the guys was a 14 yr old dwarf - he was really good and kind of cute as he was so small.
From there we visited a village that makes incense sticks. That was interesting to see how they do that - very colourful .
The last tomb was Tu Duc. Not as nice as the other ones .
After we had some lunch we headed to the Royal Palace Citadel which is probably the main tourist point in Hue. Absolutely massive piece of land. Most of it was destroyed in the war but they are slowly rebuilding sections of it. We did a lot of walking here and Pat was getting a bit b*****ed with her leg but she kept up with everyone.
During the day we got to talking to a young couple of British backpackers who were really nice . They had hooked up only a couple of weeks ago. He was eventually headed to Australia to work for 2 years and she was headed home in a few weeks . Finding it really interesting to talk to other travellers about where they have been and where they are going . This couple are heading north and going to Halong Bay so we gave them the details of our boat.
Met an old retired couple also from Melbourne. He retired from Telstra 5 years ago and worked in the technical area and was associated with Ericcson from what I can gather . They were heading to Hoi an today and then Cambodia so we may run into them again.
Our last stop on the tour was Thuin Mu Buddhist pagoda.
We returned back to the town by boat along the Perfume River pretty stuffed. We headed back to our hotel for a rest before going out for dinner.
Pat also got a dress made that we had to collect. That and a top cost 500,000 dong about $25.
Dinner was at DMZ bar which was good. The old couple were at the table next to us. This place is pretty good as its upstairs and you can sit on the balcony watching everything. You also get to write on the walls so if anyone ever visits this place look for Pat and my name on the balcony wall.
Anyway huge day - tomorrow is a relaxing day and will be looking for a massage place somewhere though we think we were spoiled in Hanoi so we will see what we can find here.
