A full day in Birdsville today meant a bit of a sleep in, and we were thankful because the wind blew up in the middle of the night and the flapping, creaking and rattling of the camper trailer kept Brad, Eddie and myself awake for hours. James slept through the whole thing, which didn't surprise me as we have always said James could sleep through a hurricane. We had a leisurely breakfast and mucked around at the campsite for a while then headed to the Birdsville Bakery for morning tea. We saw some Camels out the front that you could go for a ride on and James and Ed had a great time making Camel noises at them. After morning tea we had a quick look around the tourist information centre and headed back to camp for Ed to have his nap. When Ed woke it was back to the Bakery for lunch (yes it is that good!) and James got to have a taste of the Camel pie Brad had been talking about for the last week. He only had the tiniest bit but said it was yummy. After lunch we got our things ready to head out to Big Red (the first and biggest sand dune for crossing the Simpson desert). We had been out to Big Red 4 years ago and it was after heavy rains so we had to take a long alternate route over to the 'harder' side of Big Red and we got up no problems. This time we were able to take the direct route and got to the top of Big Red the easy side. When we were up there the kids had a ball! For James it was the biggest sandpit he had ever seen and Ed was happy crawling around and getting sand everywhere. We took lots of photos mucked around in the sand and watched the beautiful sunset from on top of the world. Then it was back to town and over to the Birdsville pub for dinner. Off to Boulia tomorrow, the home of the Min Min lights...

Nan Evans what a storyl Thanks Lisa, loved reading it. Had a phone call from Jan yesterday, and it is so good to keep up with you all. I feel as though I am with you, but not in any way a nuisance. I am enjoying this trip so much.!!!
