It's currently Friday morning here and 10 days since I started work at my Kindergarten Nursery and 10 days since I've been unable to get nursery rhymes out of my head! The school is great, although very different from the UK. I've been placed with a Pre-Nursery class, where the children are 2 years old... a challenge to say the least but they're very cute! I'm known as Miss Pip, but as most of the parents pronounce Miss Pee... quite appropriate due to the amount of toilet stops and nappy changes I've done so far!!
I am working with another classroom teacher who speaks good English and also a class helper known as an 'Auntie'. Last Thursday when the children came in for the first day all of the Aunties started hiding plants in the roof tiles... the plant apparently symbolised good luck and they didn't want the parents to know they had them all around the place!
After 4 days with the parents accompanying them and one day of school cancelled for the children due to a Red Rain Storm, yesterday was the first day they came alone! Although there were less tears than anticipated, the glass of wine we had at 5o'clock was most definitely needed! Hopefully the next few weeks will see them settle down into school life. :)
At the weekend we visited The Peak; the best place to view the whole of the Island. Photos can be seen in the Album section. We went late afternoon and had dinner before watching the sunset. The view is amazing and it's somewhere I imagine we'll go quite often. Unfortunately the almost verticle tram ride up/down to The Peak is something which I won't be looking forward to quite so much....
