What was it I was saying yesterday about quiet little Mljet? Wow, this has to have been one of the biggest nights so far.
The day is pretty uneventful, we sail to Mljet from Dubrovnik which is only about three hours, no one is awake when I get up and it stays this way until about 10am. We stop for a swim stop and this waked most people up. We stay in our spot for an hour and I watch people swim, I then tell Denis it is time to go to Mljet and order everyone back on the boat.
When we get to the National Park I give my welcome talk for Mljet and ask if anyone wants to hired a bike, about six people do and I write them out vouchers and point them in the direction of the bike hire place. The rest of the afternoon is now mine. I end up on Mlini for about two hours as all the boats have to move to let another boat out. Thankfully, Bobo is ashore while this is going on, so I am stuck drinking with Captain Gordon and watching Toni climb around on all the boats, he looks at me and says, I can't climb in my jeans. You seem to be doing ok, I think to myself as I watch him.
Captain Gordon seems convinced that I am a Russian agent, as I impress him with my rather limited grasp of Russian language. He sits there again, listening to me and then surprises me by telling me his age. To my absolute surprise he tells me he is seventy! I wouldn't have put this rather handsome older man a day over fifty! I said back to him, Seventy? Thinking maybe he was getting his English numbers confused. But no, he is seventy. He pointed at me and said, you twenty four? Ha! Flattery will get you nowhere captain. I giggle and thank him and he actually looks surprised when I make the up sign with my thumb. Twenty six? Up. Twenty eight. Up. I'm thirty one Gordon, I say. No! He says back. Don't worry, age is all in the mind and in my mind I'm still twenty one.
We float in the middle of the straight while we wait for the other boats to re arrange themselves, I give Mario and Rajko a wave and they wave back. I tell Toni to put his Bosnia song on and he says, Bratso (Gordon) will kill me! We dock up again and Bobo gets back on the boat and starts to chat me up again. I get off the boat and go help organise the Captains BBQ on my own boat. I ask the guys if they need any help. No, no, no Kristina. We are ok, but thank you, they say, seeming surprised that I had offered.
Everyone enjoys the BBQ and enjoys happy hour even more, happy hour seems to go on for much more than an hour and before I know it Tonci from the next boat is on my boat and I'm giving out shots of Grappa to the passengers and Tonci and I are doing shots of Jagermiester. I ask Tonci if he thinks he can handle my shot, well Mitch's shot, but no one know that. Battery acid, 1 part brandy, 1 part O.P rum, part dark green chartreuse and a few drops of tabasco sauce. I haven't got chartreuse so I have to improvise with jager and I have to go across to Penelopa, Tonci's boat and get his tabasco sauce. I make seven battery acids for the passengers and myself and Tonci. They all shot it and agree it's better than Grappa and Tonci looks at me in disgust and goes back to his boat. We all have a laugh about that.
Things start to get a little hazy after that, I remember dancing in the salon with the Captain Denes, who bowed and kissed my hand when our dance was over, I remember playing the peg game, where by someone puts a peg on your clothing and you have ten seconds to realised you've been pegged before you must finish your drink. They only got me once. I however, do manage to trip over the crew hatch and really hurt my elbow. Tonci tells me to go raid his bar on his boat for Jack Daniels as we don't seem to have any on Naval. I was drinking my drink on the side of the boat, next to Mlini when Bobo came and started talking to me again and I dropped my drink over board. I giggled and went to get another one. I did end up having to put one very drunk American boy to bed several times, falling over on the slippery upper deck in the process. At that point I decided to call it a night and go to bed.
