After our lovely night out with auntie Susan, Mazen & Yasmine last night we retreated to our room to enjoy a bottle of wine that the Hilton gave us. We settled on our balcony surprised at the sheer level of traffic at that time of night. A city that doesn't seem to sleep!
Today we took at taxi costing just over 30 dirhams to Atlantis located on the Palm. Wow! We had a nice starbucks because it would be rude not to and then sauntered around. We decided that we'd visit the lost chambers, a huge aquarium. It was amazing! The lagoon was spectacular and something I'll never forget... Sharks, Rays and much more.... Beautiful. We sat I front of the massive viewing gallery like intrigued school children, totally taking in all the amazing sites (while thinking about Wen-Kai Su). It cost 100 dirhams each, so worth it! I don't know what it was but the whole thing seemed to make blue planet aquarium look amateur. I know it's not!
On leaving Atlantis we took at taxi back to our hotel, we got out just before and walked for 15 minutes or so before realising that we were burning. My shoes felt hot and Stephs legs had topped up sun burn on top of sun burn. We went to our room to cool down and made our way to the exec lounge to participate in afternoon tea. It was a belting affair! Wen-Kai Su would have been pleased.
Now I type sat on our balcony over looking the most interesting city I have ever been to getting ready for drinks at 6pm.
In the hazy distance I can see Atlantis, totally distinctive
Being a HGV driver and pretty much seeing drivers everyday from being 15 years of age, I have an image of a stereotypical hgv driver but being in this country that image has been overridden by drivers in typical traditional Arabic attire, totally not conforming with the wears of a health and safety mad culture in the UK and Ireland. Bizarre!
More to follow.... I hope wen-Kai su got home ok!
