Destination Malaysia......
We got picked up outside our guesthouse in Krabi around 7am by a mini-van. We had a long 4 hour journey to Satun where we would catch a ferry. We're not big fans of the mini-vans in Thailand as most the drivers like to think they are F1 drivers, and there not the most spacious vehicles... to add to this we got picked up last and were squeezed upfront with the driver. So we get a full view of the crazy driving!! Fortunately it didn't turn out this way.... the driver was really friendly, he had a soft spot for Lucy! Offering her mints, and giving her a bottle of water. He also was a good driver who didn't drive stupidly. He took pride in his mini-van, dodging a puddle at one point and washing the wheels when we stopped for fuel.
After the 4 hour journey we had a couple of hours waiting around at Satun ferry terminal. Then we had a 2 hour ferry journey to Langkawi. On leaving Satun, it was bye bye Thailand and on arrival to Langkawi, helloooo Malaysia.
Langkawi's a duty free island and is a popular holiday destination for locals. Langkawi's ferry terminal was like an airport, duty free shops everywhere. Cash machine found, and a new currency to get use to.
We shared a taxi to Pantai Cenang with 2 other people to cut down on costs. Pantai Cenang is the main beach area of the island. We got dropped of where the cheap backpackers accomodations were situated.... Full, Full, Full...... Ohh dear! Lucy said to Peter 'knew we should of booked!'
We finally found a place with 1 room left... it was called Daddy's and our room was around a 5 minute walk away from reception on a completely different plot of land! We only stayed here for 1 night.... dirty bathroom, cockroach under a bottle, wires cut on lampshade, wrong plug for tv to work, and also had to keep topping the back of the toilet up with water from the tap as the system didn't seem to work!
That evening we just had a beer down at the beach and watched the sunset while people had fun on the jet ski's and banana boats. We ate at a reasonably cheap indian called Tomato. Lucy had butter chicken massala and Peter had pepper chicken, both with garlic naan and rice.... Delicious.
The next morning we went looking for an alternative accomodation... Lucy found us a dorm room, which was a little cheaper with breakfast included. We got them to save us a couple of beds and went to check out of Daddys. On returning to the dorm place we were greeted with some unhappy people and police. Turns out the dorm had been robbed during the night when the majority of people were out drinking. After talking to a girl who had stayed there, we decided to look elsewhere again! Peter returned from his hunting.... we had the last room at Rainbow :) .... Rainbow turned out to be very good :)
That day we spent chilling out and trying to sort some things out for the rest of our travels. We ate again at tomato that evening, once again was very good! Also enjoyed some connect4 at an irish bar.
The following day we went down to the beach.... scorchingly hot. The sand in parts was too hot to stand on. We didn't sunbath for too long before running into the sea. Lucy then randomly said 'do you want to go for a run?'.... to Lucys suprise, Peter replied 'yeh, go on then'... So we went for a run down the beach to the very far end and back. Wouldn't reccommend it in the afternoon sun with temperatures over 30degrees celsius!! On the way back we spotted a drinks seller... large bottle of water and sprite thankyou very much :)
Guess what....???
We did you know.....
We ate at the delicious TOMATO again!!!!
The following morning we left our guesthouse and got a taxi back to the ferry terminal. Grabbed a cheeky KFC and waited around in the ferry terminal watching little kids fly round the place in battery powered cars.... one lad was very amusing, crashing into everything in sight! We then boarded a 3 hour ferry to Penang.
