Tuesday 15th november, our first morning in Luang Prabang. We decided to get familiar with the place and did a few laps of the town. Didnt really do anything else that day apart from eat and drink.. Pretty much like everyday in Lazy Laos. That evening we ended up in a bar called the Hive which had a Laos fashion show.. quite different to the fashion show we're used to. At the end of the fashion they had a break dancing competition which was fair good to watch.. cheering for our favourites. haha! Later on there got to be quite a large number of us from people we had met on the boat .. drinking led to more drinking and we eventually ended up at the famous Luang Prabang bowling alley (which is the only place that is open after 11.30pm) As you can see from a couple of our photos we ended up playing bowling with a few Laos people and they put us to shame.. i mean we thought we were alright at bowling but obviously not!We decided to leave at 2.30am and call it day, we got a tuk-tuk to our guesthouse and driving through the town was really weird.. ive never seen anything like it .. ghost town.. not one person about apart from Me, Peter and the tuk-tuk driver.
As im sat here writing this im currently drinking a coconut shake and i would just like to say its a taste sensation.. anyways we woke up on the wednesday morning with a knock at our door, it was emma telling us they were going to Tad sae waterfalls at 12 noon if we wanted to go.. feeling a little rough we dragged ourselves out of bed, showered, checked out of our guesthouse, checked in to our new guesthouse (cheaper one) and went for breakfast. So at 12noon we set off in a tuk-tuk for tad sae waterfalls, theses waterfalls aren't accessable by road so we had to catch a long tail boat to the other side of the river which took about 5 minutes. When we got there the waterfalls were beautiful, the water was really cold but we had a good hour swimming. As soon as we got out of the water two elephants with people on their backs walked into the water and left a couple of massive floaters..Phewww that was good timing. Later that day we walked round the night market, had some tea and an early night.
Thursday ended up being another lazy day to save on some cash, as we had booked a flight from Vientiane to Hanoi scheduled for the 7th Decemeber..although we did walk up to the temple on top of the hill at around 4.30pm to watch the sunset, it was picturesque.
Friday we went to Kuang Si waterfalls.... we'd been told these were fair amazing - and they definately turned out to be. We got 2 hours there to explore. This included looking at a bear conservation site, where we could just watch the bears playing and lazing around. The waterfalls themselves were quite spectacular, we first walked to the top falls where the biggest of the falls were. We couldn't swim in this area but is was quite a sight. We then followed the stream down, where we came across lots of little pools with little waterfalls, the water was so clean and clear. Further down we came to the swimming area, lots of people were round here. We could jump from the falls and there was also a tree swing going into the big pool at the bottom. We didn't stay too long in the water as Lucy has something nibbling at her ankle so we thought it would be best to get out! Our 2 hours was nearly up anyways, so we went down to the bears and took some photos, then back to the minivan. The journey took about 45mins, stopping at a hmong tribal village on the way back. We felt a little intimidated by all the kids here trying to sell us different bands and scarfs etc. Just as we were getting back on the minivan, a little child (probs around 1-2 years old) was just sat on his own playing with 2 pairs of scissors. They simply don't have toys and just mess with anything they can get their hands on, unfortunately the mother didn't seem to care her son was playing with dangerous things!
On the saturday we just had a nice walk along the mekong and nam song river, followed by more food and lazing around! We also booked a minivan for the following morning to take us to Vang Vieng, which is further south. On our last evening we went across town to Lao Lao Gardens for a meal and some drinks. The food was excellent, some of the best we had eaten for a while. We shared chicken wings for a starter (which suprisingly came as a starter!! most places just bring the starters after the mains.... don't think they understand the meaning of the word 'starter'). Then Peter's main came, eating it slowly as well because Lucy's main hadn't arrived yet, he finished it and still no sign of Lucys.... a waiter came over and apologised for the delay! Another 5/10 minutes went past, we'd had enough... just as we were going to get up and complain and refuse to pay for some of our meal... Lucy's meal finally arrived!! Around 25 minutes after Peter's had come. Lucy really enjoyed her Pad Thai but we still weren't too impressed. We went to pay and were going to refuse to pay full price... but looking at the bill we noticed that the amount didn't seem as much as we thought it would be.... No chicken wings appeared on the bill. Whether this was there mistake or they'd deducted this off our bill on purpose, we don't know! So without any arguements we quickly paid the bill and left!
We went across to an aussie bar where football was on, unfortunately they weren't showing the Burnley v Leeds game as it was on the bbc. We had a drink there, but had too leave as Peter had really bad stomach pains. Walking back to the guesthouse the pains got worse.... constipation!! Peter ran back to the guesthouse leaving Lucy to go find something to help from the shops. Fishermans friends.... what a life saver!!!
The next morning we grabbed some quick breakfast and left on our 6 hour journey to Vang Vieng.... As normal nothing runs on time!!
