Yesterday I woke at 5am, not bad considering. Today was 7am, so it seems my internal alarm has been reset. That's a record for me as I'm used to painful 3am wakeups after such a time change.
Instead of losing myself in the city by foot, yesterday I chose to do so by bike. In this city, there is no better way to get around. Even when the clouds roll in and a few drops fall, people seem wholy unphased. Everyone is still fashionably peddling along in their suits, skirts, flowing scarves etc. The locals nonchalantly run reds and turn without notice (unless they have a child on board - or 2 or 3). Keeps a tourist on their toes. Not only did I see the city, but I also hopped on the free ferry to Amsterdam Noord for a scenic tour of canals with older houseboats, parks, grassy fields and quaint old houses in villages from the 1600's, with people out fishin and biking everywhere. A nice shift from the city.
After another very full day, I made my way to the train station to book passage to Paris for this morning. A note on this: it's much cheaper to book online and in advance. Lastly, I took a lovely walk last night at dusk (10:30pm here) listening to the city. I realized that not only do I feel safe here, but also very much at home. Perhaps a place to keep in mind for years down the road.
Next stop, Paris.

Corina Re: Feeling at home. Beware! A friend of mine spent a single day in Amsterdam and ended up moving there for three years. :) And there's a problem with that why?
