Hi Mike and Alison,
just to clarify - your bird may have been the hooded pitohui or blue capped ifrita!(c.f.wilson-two-shed's multiple entries below)
Have attempted to ring you this week but no reply - perhaps you are on one of your trips.Of course now that I'm retired I am able to ring mid-morning during the week which I think is the right time to get you.
Once again your most recent blog makes fascinating reading - can't wait for the next instalment.
Sam started school this week and Molly has gone into Year 8 and Jen is back up in Colonsay.
Take care and hope to speak to you soon.
love Dave

Hi Both
Yor bird may have been a hooded pitohui or a blue capped ifrita - both poisonous and both PNG residents. Message is to steer clear of birds with batrachotoxin in their dander.(c.f. Phillip's recommended article below)
We have a white blackbird visiting our garden.
Wedding is on 31st July 2010. (Nothing to do with the bird thing)
I asked Tony, our resident ornithologist, about the posinous bird - it is spelt "Pitohui". He explained that species of Pitohui and Ifrita have a potent toxin in their skin and feathers that repels parasites and predators.

I once went out with a poisonous bird - but it was a long time ago.

Good to speak to you on Skype the other day - even though the line was a bit dodgy.
A couple made a pact that whoever died first would come back to tell their other half what life after death was like. There biggest fear was that was no life after death.
After many years of being happily marrired the husband died first and after 3 months his wife was awoken in the middle of the night by her husband's voice calling her name.
"Is that you, Jack?"
"Yes, I have come back as promised."
"What's life like on the other side?" his widow asked
"Well, I get up in the morning and have sex a couple of times, then off to the golf course for the morning, come back have sex again and then back to the golf course for lunch - eating lots of greens you'll be pleased to know - and then at the end of the afternoon, go back for more sex until I fall asleep. The next day it's much the same routine."
"Oh, Jack, you must be in Heaven!"
"Not exactly. I'm a rabbit on a golf course in Scotland."

Hi Both
Hope you are both well.
Hilary has ended her holiday today and is starting to pick up the strands of her new projects. She is still flushed with success from her 1st and 2nd prizes in the village show. Unfortunately my tomatoes won nothing - perhaps I should have entered my plums!
We went to pick up Alison's dress and shoes on Saturday - I found it quite unsettling to be in the house when you have been away for so long - the house looked the same, but felt different.
Sang at a wedding at St. Clements, in Leigh, on Friday. The wedding was for the daughter of one of the bases and made a welcome change from singing at chorister's funerals.
I'm off now to water the allotment - no rain for several weeks now.
Keep up the good work in PNG.
Love

Hello you two
Just a quick note to say 'I love my bag'. Thank you very much. Still not right after the food poisoning. Have been to docs and they are running tests.
I did try and phone on Sunday but there was not reply - either you were out, in bed or your phone line was down! Anyway speak soon.
