MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
Today we board the Island Princess for our Panama Canal cruise. We have breakfast at the hotel and prepare for our transfer to the ship. We meet with Robyn and Bruce on the bus to the port. Check in is easy but the most exciting part is that when we receive our cruise cards they are Platinum which means we have gone up a level with our cruise loyalty program and this means we get 250 minutes of free internet each!
On board our cabin is on deck 10 port side. The room is a bit larger than the Royal Princess and the balcony is bigger also but the people on the level above look down on us and we look down on the people below which is weird. Sail away is great with most people out on their balconies and the people on shore waving as we leave.
This ship is in its own way very elegant and has great character. The public areas all have different themes and are tastefully decorated.
On this cruise we have chosen traditional dining at 7.45pm so we have time for happy hour at the wheel house bar followed by the early show which is the cruise singers followed by the same comedian that was on the Royal Princess, same routine and jokes, but we laughed just as much!
At dinner we are seated at a table for four and as this will be our set dining for the duration of the cruise we are waiting to meet our table mates. They are a couple from Burnside Meridy and Michael. He is a retired GP and she is a retired Physiotherapist.
They are a lovely couple with 4 children and 13 grandchildren. Just after we order our meal we get an announcement from the bridge to say that we are circling back to investigate and assist a capsized boat in the area. A little while later we are told that the US coast guard have given us the all clear to continue our journey as they have the situation under control. We are curious but may never find out any other details. It's an enjoyable dinner and we look forward to getting to know them more over the next couple of weeks.
Tomorrow is a sea day on the way to Aruba
